Shoot Three

Recently i have completed my third shoot where i filmed the body of the event , the antagonist, interacting with the house preparing to cause pain to the unsuspecting female. I left diagetic sound in one to heighten verisimilitude but it was an area that i wanted to improve on in that a small amount of on location diagetic sound can add to the escapism and believability on the film.
my film is shot from the walls point of view, the camera focuses on the male and presents the female as the victim which could be argued that it falls into the male gaze theory proposed by Laura Mulvey which suggest that the film industry is always filmed from the male perspective and portraying females as week and less of a social matter than men! Personally i chose the victium to be female purely because the male actor is a little over 6 ft and to have the smaller younger girl as the dominate one would seem un realistic, furthermore would subvert conventions of the genre, this example to me suggest that directors on the majority use actors and actresses that are convenient not so much to reflect dominance and a male gaze.

Shoot 2

For my second shoot I first went to one location in Chalfont, the area was restricted and hard to gain the shoots I wanted that would convey the correct emotion and follow the appropriate narrative.
I am subverting the conventions of Todorov making the narrative switch from the present to the past replicating the underlining tones of “If walls could speak”. The first location didn’t reflect what I wanted therefore I moved to a more distant derelict farm where I could gain shots of a place where time and accident are shown in the destruction of the remaining ruins. Once I completed all my footage I concluded the day as successful and big step forward. The feedback I got ,once edited , from peers and my teacher was to change one shoot to a zoom instead of tracking because it would vary technique furthermore the audiences viewing pleasure to see similar shots and camera work would create a state of boredom therefore I will adjust my sequence and take one long shot which is situated in the wrong place between close ups within the ruins braking continuity, and replacing it with a newly filmed close up.
At the moment I have no sound or music in the background my intentions are to add not music but a spooky ambience I have found independent artist on YouTube who are willing to let me use there sounds which for my film will create a heightened level of tension and cinematic feel, it was proposed to me that some diagetic sound when on set if used correctly will convey a stronger reality it will enhance the audience escapism and bring them into the film and in turn narrative easier. Escapism is a emotion felt by an audience when watching a film or television drama they engage with the text to a point where reality is not in the mind only the world created on the screen personally I feel the best example and film that does this is Lord of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson he uses not only J. R. Tolkien imagination and development of this world but also the architecture sound location dialog costume , I could go on , if I could create even the slightest feeling of escapism the film would be a success in my eyes.
I now have a completed title sequence it has a slow pace but applies to conventions of the genre and overall which a little tweaking I have a good opening, which appeals to the audience and has an air of professionalism. It sets the location which was one of the four areas that all short films establish be it location genre character and narrative, The next step it to film the middle part and the end which I plan to do on the 5th of February.
